Deaf Feet

Brussels based label head shares insights into his production methods, how investing in gear as early as possible would be his advice to his younger self as well as his views on the creation process and its compatibility with earning money

With a natural attachment to electronic music, Deaf Feet presents himself to the community with several collaborations and track releases through Diversity Collective and Oasis Records, both label projects he co-founded.

As a dancefloor kicker since the start, the Lisbon club scene forged his ability to become a music collector, selector, and producer, under the scope of House / Deep House and Electro / EBM Techno music. Including references to the legendary old-school 90’s House and the 00’s French House - Electro pioneers.

Could you tell us a bit about the process of making your track? How did it come about?

Well, it's not really a formula or a specific method in every project. But in a way, I do enjoy building up from some harmonic sequences first, and then feel what percussion or texture elements I can groove into the mix.

If you could go back in time and give guidance to your younger self, what would you say that would impact your career the most?

Waste all your savings in hardware gear and start swinging it as early as possible.

What is the one thing that you always do when producing that if you didn’t, it wouldn’t be a ‘Deaf Feet’ track?

Give five to six days to wash that track from your head, and then come back with fresher mix detects.

The common saying “ Starving Artist” describes the all too common path of artists and their lack of commercial success. Yet, millions of new artists emerge every year, hoping to make a living from their art. In your opinion, is art compatible with money? How do you stay authentic in your music when your livelihood depends on it?

For me, if you do art it is because it's disruptive to you, it's playful, brings you together with friends, and it has an intuitive feeling that you will try to pass on to other people.

Is art compatible with money?

Well, it can be, but that will depend on you. It's a path of solitude and self-dedication; your choices and the way you live with that dedication will define your success. I would say not everyone has the qualities for it.

If you could travel into the future and bring us back newfound wisdom that could help music producers make a sustainable living from their craft, what would you hope to experience?

If i could travel into the future i would hope to find a way to grow vegetables by feeding music to your farm
